(Oryctolagus cuniculus)
Description Dark brown/grey fur, long ears, long hind legs and a short tail. Head and body length 34 - 45.5cm, weight 1.3 - 2.2kg.
Life cycle Rabbits don't live more than 3 years and most die in their first year. They live in colonies of 2-30 individuals and females can produce a litter of 3-7 young per month from January to August, which are weaned at 21-25 days.
Habitat Found in varied habitats where cover and food plants co-exist.
Diet Grasses, cereals, root vegetables, shoots and tree bark.


Status
Reserve Breeding colony of rabbits resident at the eastern end of the reserve.
Britain Pre-breeding population estimated at 37,500,000 and increasing, population still below the pre-myxomatosis levels of the 1950's.
