Red Algae Red algae are usually found in the sea, around coastlines. Their red colour helps them to absorb light in deeper water. Most red algae are large, and come in a variety of shapes. Some can be found in fresh water or on damp soil. Some make the walls of their cells go hard with calcium, which help to hold coral reefs together.
