| Beefsteak Fungus |
|
|
If you slice
this fungus with a knife, the inside looks just like a juicy beefsteak.
It looks like red meat, with streaks of white fat running through it.
On the outside, the beefsteak fungus is white or creamy coloured, but
will "bruise" red if touched, and if you scratch the surface
of the fungus, it starts to "bleed". It grows on dead or live tree trunks, and is shaped like a thick rounded tongue. It grows in abundance during the late summer.
