Who runs the centre?
The centre is a KCC project managed by Kent
Advisory Service partnership with the National Grid Company. It provides
facilities for research and teaching. It supports schools throughout Kent.
Programmes of Study are available from Key Stage 1 to 'A' Level. |
| |
What facilities are there?
We have a 9 hectare nature reserve including
river, lakes and a wide range of other habitats, two Classroom/laboratory
facilities, disabled persons/wheelchair access including toilets, a wide
range of specialist field study equipment, library and resource centre,
information technology suite including automatic weather station, video
microscopy, Internet links and qualified teaching staff. |
| |
What teaching programmes
are on offer?
You may make use of the facilities to teach
your own programmes or choose from a variety of programmes of study which
have been developed at the Centre. The programmes of study support Environmental
Education across the National Curriculum. We specialise in Information Technology
and the Environment as well as making use of our extensive biodiversity
database. We are keen to work with schools in developing new programmes
specific to their needs. |
| |
How do I book a visit?
Initially by telephone - we will reserve days
for you and send you a booking form which you return to us as soon as possible.
Our receipt of the completed booking form is confirmation of your booking.
Bookings can be made up to one year in advance. Book well in advance. We
strongly recommend a pre-visit, when you have booked your day with us, so
that you can find out more about our centre and what it has to offer your
school. |
| |
When can I visit?
We are open all year round during term time.
We offer warm, safe facilities whatever the weather. Many programmes of
study are well suited to the autumn and winter term as well as the summer
terms. |
| |
How many children can
I bring?
The Centre can cater for a maximum of two classes
per day, maximum 70 children in total. |
| |
How many adults should
I bring?
This depends on the age of the pupils. The
minimum staffing ratio requirements are 1 : 10 adults to children (KS 1
- 2) 1 : 15, (KS 3 - A level). We do recommend higher staffing ratios than
this because most of our activities work best with small groups. |
| |
What do I need to bring?
Packed lunch, appropriate footwear and clothing
for the weather conditions, (wellies are only necessary in very wet weather),
portable first aid kit. You do not need clipboards or pencils. You also
need a copy of the pupil register. |
| |
What does CEEC provide?
All teaching materials, worksheets, clipboards,
pencils and other equipment. We have a small kitchen where staff can make
hot drinks. |
| |
How do we get there?
We are off Broad Oak Road next to the Honda
garage. There is an electronic barrier and a telephone from where you ring
to gain access. |
| |
How much does it cost?
£60 per class per day for Kent LEA schools.
Others please contact the Centre for information. Schools will be invoiced
by KAS after their visit. There is an extra charge for video tapes, computer
discs and multiple copies of coloured prints which you may wish to take
away. |
