| We aim to show children how photosynthesis is the prime source of the fossil fuels we use. We investigate plants, fossils and fossil fuels. Simple 'hands on' experiments are carried out involving (safe) burning of fuels and energy transformations involving steam engines and hand powered dynamos. Simple circuits and the safe use of electricity are all introduced. We also follow one of the trails around the National Grid sub-station to help children understand more fully their role in transporting and distributing electricity. This programme is designed to give Key Stage 2 children an introduction to energy conservation and simple electrical circuits as well as the safe and responsible use of electricity. |
