Restoring
is a similar process to repairing. For example people often restore old pieces of furnitureto make them look newer and better.
Areas of land can also be restored. For example you could change an area of your school field into a garden or wildlife area to grow vegetablesor to attracts a lots of butterflies!

At Broad Oak Nature Reserve in Canterbury a big restoration project took place to make an area of land into a nature reserve. In the 1930s it was a gravel quarry. The gravel pits were abandoned for many years and filled with water. An electricity company bought some of the land to build a large substation. The lakes were cleared of abandoned cars and other rubbish. Some of the pools had to be filled with water and trees were planted. Wildlife has started to live in and around the lakes at Broad Oak, making it an important habitat for many plants and animals.

So the Broad Oak Nature Reserve has been restored from a gravel quarry to a nature reserve!

A smaller restoration project is now taking place at Broad Oak Nature Reserve. A disused area close to the centre is being transformed.
