At Broad Oak Nature Reserve we try to have as little impact on our planet as possible. We want to encourage all our visitors to 'live lightly'. This includes reusing and recycling our rubbish.

We are challenging you to bring a packed lunch with as little waste as possible, when you visit us at the centre. After you have eaten your lunch we will be sorting and weighing the waste materials from your lunch boxes, so that you can compare your results with other schools!

Here are some ideas to help you create a "Waste free lunch."

  • Bring lunch boxes or bags that can be reused.
  • Use foil (which can be recycled) instead of clingfilm.
  • Use a flask or a reusable bottle instead of throw-away drinks containers.
You will be asked to sort your waste into...
compost

bread

plastic

cans Metal (e.g. aluminium foil, tins) Recycled through the Canterbury collection scheme.
paper Paper and cardboard Recycled through the Canterbury collection scheme.
rubbish Rubbish Taken to the landfill site. (Hopefully this will be as little as possible.)
