The Red Cone stands where the Pylon Bird Sculpture was sited. In fact it was made from the Bird, cut up into a thousand pieces after it was vandalised (Click here to see the Pylon Bird). It is a closed form sculpture, unlike the open form of the Pylon Bird which could be seen through. Before being put in position, the red cone was photographed in other places on the site, including the central sub-station area. |

| The Barrier sculptures look like trees, but at the same time they have the straight lines of the electricity sub-station fencing and the shape of other industrial components on the site. They are simple temporary structures, made from split willow wood on upright poles. |

Three upright poles
have been pushed into the ground through a circular wooden disc. The
tops of the poles have been scorched by fire and have been drilled with
numerous tiny holes. Soft willow "withies" and red dogwood
twigs have been pushed into the holes and wrapped round the uprights.
It stands next to the sub-station fence and has a mysterious and dangerous
feel, as though it should be on the sub-station site. It is called Burnt
Insulator.

A hazelwood frame,
supports a briar ball, with its fierce thorns, that hangs like a giant
electron. Nature, like electricity, can have its dangers. Artist, Paul
Goodrick, had to wear thick leather gloves to create this sculpture.

| This sculpture is called Spark Gap. Its red dogwood and green, twisted, willow twigs, set in a piece of burnt willow wood, draws inspiration from the powerful forces of electricity and the crackling noises of sparks which can be heard coming from the electrical components on the sub-station site. |

Twig Box is a re-constructed willow tree that was coppiced nearby. With the pylons and wires looming in the background we can think of two different sources of energy, with roots in the same place. |

Thistle
is a strange-looking, hybrid plant made from briar and willow. It looks
across the fence of the electricity sub-station at other strange objects
made from steel and ceramic.
