This sculpture is made
totally out of man-made materials - wire, piping, plastic, film cassettes
- but it has the shape of an orchid. What does this tell us? Why is
it positioned among natural things? What does it say about itself and
the things around it? It was completed by two artists, Paul Goodrick
and Cas Holmes. They started with the large gas pipe on its side, drilled
holes into it and added cut pieces of waste materials. Throughout the
process the artists thought aboout and discussed its shape in organic,
rather than industrial terms. It is supported by a steel pole, driven
into the ground.
