You will need: A simple paint program.

Show a simple paint program using tools like paint brush, shapes and flood fill. Explain to the children that to make a shape they need to click and drag.

Children can practise this in the air with their imaginary mice, as the teacher models it on the computer.

Encourage pupils to think about how to make a pattern or picture using shapes. Support children to click and drag the shapes to make them large or small. Allow children to negotiate the program using tools and to fill the shapes using flood fill.

Thinking Questions: Which tools have you used to make your picture?
What different colours/shapes have you used?
How did you decide which colours to use?
How would you make your clown picture better?
Can you think of a name for your clown?
How would your clown be different if you had painted it?

Plenary/Recall: Ask children to make up a story about their clown with a talking partner. Share the stories and pictures with the class. up
