They have been encouraged to use these experiences and their imagination to describe a space monster. Learning Intentions:To use talk to organise, sequence and clarify ideas (CLL). To choose colours and tools for a purpose (CD). To select colours and tools in a simple paint program (KUW). Child Speak Targets: I am learning to/can choose colours and tools to draw the space monster I have described. Key Vocabulary: colour, tool, mouse, arrow, click, draw, paintbrush, fill, spray can, undo, print. |

You will need: Simple paint program.
Demonstrate the effects that different tools create on the screen: paintbrush, spray can, flood fill. Encourage the children to experiment with different tools, using the undo button to modify their ideas. |
In
talking pairs, ask questions about the space monster: Ask the children to create the space monster that they have described on screen, selecting appropriate colours and tools. Observe and discuss with the children why they have chosen the colour or tool and how they might change or improve their ideas on screen. Ask the children to print their work for display. |
You will need: different sized paper, painting materials. Encourage the children to create a picture of their space monster using a different media type.

Share paintings and printed versions
of space monsters. Use thinking questions to discuss whether the paintings
and printed versions are the same or different. Think about how their
design can be changed and whether this would be easier using paint or
