      Page 1 and 2

      Here are Mum and Dad Swan. They are looking for a place to make a nest. Why do they want to make a nest?

      Mum swan is going to lay some eggs. The swans want to make a safe home for the eggs.

      Page 3 and 4

      In May the swans make a nest in some reeds by the lake. Why is the swan sitting on the eggs?

      She is sitting on the eggs to keep them warm and safe. There is a hungry fox around who would like to eat the eggs.

      Page 5 and 6

      Look! Can you see what has hatched out from the eggs? Do you know what we call a baby swan?

      A baby swan is called a cygnet. Look at the picture again. How many cygnets can you see?

      Page 7 and 8

      In June the cygnets have their first swim. What do you think they like to eat?

      Cygnets like to eat small insects and plants that live in the water. If they eat lots, one day they will be as big as their mum and dad.

      Page 9 and 10

      The cygnets grow quickly in July. Can you see one stretching its wings? Do you think it can fly?

      No, the cygnet's wings are too small. Cygnets must eat lots more plants to grow bigger and stronger.
