LOCAL AGENDA 21 INFORMATION.

A basic guide to Local Agenda 21.
Agenda 21 is an international agreement but two thirds of its proposals can only be achieved by local action.
The way this is managed is by establishing ‘Local Agenda 21's’. Each local authority is responsible for designing and implementing its own action plan for delivering Local Agenda 21.

Local Agenda 21's should aim to:
# promote consultation on sustainable development with the local community, including young people;

# make sure that different sectors in the community are talking to each other as part of the process;

# identify actions that people will take locally that will make a difference.

In Kent and Medway, each local council, has their own strategy for Local Agenda 21 and has appointed a Local Agenda 21 co-ordinator. These co-ordinators are keen to work with schools on community environmental projects because young people must be involved in the process.
