THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION (U.K.)

Environmental Education involves the recognition of values, clarification of concepts and development of the skills and attitudes needed to understand the inter-relatedness of humans, their culture and their biophysical surroundings. It promotes sound environmental practice in decision making, concern for environmental quality and the adoption of a code of behaviour. The National Association for Environmental Education is an association of teachers, lecturers and others concerned with education and the environment, its members work in all types of schools, colleges and universities. They include representatives of all the disciplines involved in environmental education both from the sciences and the humanities. The Association has produced 'Aims and Objectives' setting out the objectives of environmental education at all levels in detail and it also produces journals, News and Views and a series of practical teachers' guides and other publications. National conferences are held regularly, attended by educationalists and leading speakers on national and world-wide environmental problems. Members are encouraged to help in study conference or working parties to carry out research, construct syllabuses or suggest practical teaching methods. In addition the Association, either on its own account or through the Council for Environmental Education, continually presses for financial or other facilities for environmental education in schools through the Department for Education and Employment, Examinations Boards and Local Authorities. It is particularly concerned to encourage teacher training in environmental education. The Association acts as a channel for outside bodies to help teachers of environmental education with information and materials. New members are always welcome.
