Nature Conservation Strategy

The Canterbury City Council Nature Conservation Strategy aims to:
Ensure the conservation of existing biodiversity.
Increase the variety of wildlife throughout the District.
Promote wildlife heritage to both residents and visitors.

Policies in this strategy seek to:
Protect important wildlife sites throughout the District through planning policies, development control and enforcement.
Enhance the conservation interests of important wildlife sites.
Increase the area of semi-natural habitat and enhance its value for wildlife.
Enhance the nature conservation interest of its own land.
Conserve protected rare species.
Promote the wildlife heritage as an ammenity.
Promote community action in the management of wildlife.
Develop partnerships with outside organisations to promote nature conservation.
Form links with schools and colleges to promote nature conservation.
Promote the nature conservation strategy, both within the
council and within the community.
