Where is the Canterbury Environmental Education Centre?
The centre is located to the east of Canterbury; following the Broad Oak
Road out of Canterbury turn right after the
Honda Garage, opposite B&Q. (Grid Reference TR158594)
What is the Canterbury Environmental Education Centre?
It is a partnership project between Kent County Council and the National
Grid Company providing Environmental Education opportunities
and research facilities for all ages. The centre is located within 8 hectares
of lakes and woodlands adjacent to the Canterbury North Substation. Regular
conservation work is undertaken to maintain the site as an
important wildlife reserve and educational resource.
What facilities are there?
The centre consists of two fully equipped classrooms, a research laboratory
with state of the art information technology, a kitchen, toilets and a
shower room! Outside on the reserve there are three nature trails,
two dipping platforms and two picnic areas.
The centre is designed to be fully accessible for everyone,
there is an easy access toilet, dipping platform and nature trail.
When is it open?
The centre is available to schools within the Kent Education Authority Area
during school term time. It is located on a restricted
access site and visits must be booked in advance with the Head of Centre.
