Teachers Notes

Welcome to Pond Explorer. A resource which allows pupils to explore the animals living in a pond habitat. This site has been developed to address modules within the QCA Science Framework.

Click below to explore the different parts of this site, (if you would like to return to this page click on the "back" button in your browser):

  • QCA Science Framework: activities, links and resources using Pond Explorer. See Unit 4b Habitats and Unit 6A Interdependence and Adaptation.
  • Virtual Pond Dip: a interactive page for pupils to explore some of the animals living in a pond. Information sheets containing interesting facts, food chains details and life cycles are provided for these animals.
  • Exploring Pond Habitats: pupils can explore the different habitats found within a pond and discover which animals live there. Information about habitat conditions is provided to allow pupils to investigate and understand animals adaptations to habitat.
  • Pond Investigation: notes for pupils and teachers explaining how to carry out a investigation exploring the animals within a pond.
  • Identification Key: a key specifically to identify pond animals.
  • Research Skills Activity Sheet: to help children to develop their research skills. This sheet has been designed to be used with the Above Water habitat. Further sheets could be developed for the other mini-habitats.
