West Boldon Environmental Education Centre, in South Tyneside, is run in partnership with Groundwork South Tyneside and The National Grid.

Launch of EIS with Eddie Campbell & Stephen Inglis - South Tyneside Council Education Department The centre offers a free Environmental Information Service (EIS) to schools and other interested parties. The service aims to provide information on all aspects of the environment, nature, wildlife and environmental education. Users can contact the centre and request worksheets, lesson plans and information on curricular and cross-curricular topics relating to environmental education and connecting subjects. Information can relate directly to the National Curriculum, targeting key areas such as science, geography, sustainability and citizenship.

The EIS will also provide information and advice regarding environmental issues and resources, for example providing details of the education packs that are available from other organisations and companies, such as Shell and the RSPB, as well as provide useful contacts for environmental initiatives in the area.

Requests received to date have covered a wide range of topics such as lesson ideas and resources available on renewable energy, advice on recycling contacts in the region, practical lesson ideas for the science curriculum and advice on funding sources for environmental projects in schools. Users have included primary and secondary teachers, youth leaders and other environmental organisations such as The Wildlife Trust and English Nature.

So if you need to find vital resources or information regards the environment, please contact the centre, and we will endeavour to answer your request as soon as possible.

The centre also offers a comprehensive environmental education programme and hosts a range of public events and courses. For further details or to use the EIS please call the centre on (0191) 536 4873.
